The earliest directory mention I could find was 1845 where the landlady is listed as Sarah Matilda Stonham. The pub remained the Seven Stars up until the 1970s/80s when it was renamed the Old Vic. For a time in the 1990s it was called Helsinkis. I am glad to say, very recently it has reverted back to its original name of the Seven Stars.
The earliest record for the Race Horse Inn is 1882 when it was listed as the Race Horse Tavern run by H Stubberfield.
On the corner of Cobden Road. This was a public house from at least 1881.

Work has now commenced on controversial plans to alter the traffic flow and accessibility of the area between St. Peter’s and Pool Valley.
Days are numbered for most of the buildings along Pelham Terrace, Lewes Road.
Demolition has started of the old Pink Coconut Night Club.
Built in 1933. Closed as a cinema in the late 1970s, it became a Bingo Hall. This closed in 1997.

Greetings from the States! So, according to Pigots, George Alexander Stonham (Sarah Matilda Stonham’s husband; he and she are my 3rd great grandparents; he passed in 1842) owned the Seven Stars Inn at least in 1832 (and 1839).
