The earliest records I could find for 210 and 210a Elm Grove was during the early 1890s.
I always knew this shop as Betty’s. My Mum spent a lot of time chatting to Betty and her husband whilst I stood with her in the shop watching Betty’s husband slice meat with a meat slicing machine.
From 1917 110 Elm Grove was a Drapers store ran by Mrs Hobden. The first mention of a Girl Guide’s shop was c.1958.

Work has now commenced on controversial plans to alter the traffic flow and accessibility of the area between St. Peter’s and Pool Valley.
Days are numbered for most of the buildings along Pelham Terrace, Lewes Road.
Demolition has started of the old Pink Coconut Night Club.
Built in 1933. Closed as a cinema in the late 1970s, it became a Bingo Hall. This closed in 1997.
