Walking past today I noticed that you could see a feint outline of the word 'Sopers' - and this was once Sopers Bazaar or Emporium.
Samuel Henry Soper had his linen draper business here from c. 1860. The corner was known as Soper's Corner.

Lane & Stedman has been at this address since c. 1908, and possibly a couple of years previous to that. Before this it was also a chemist by the name of Headland’s.

A department store none of us will forget. This is one of the old doorways in East Street.

A. Brick, lead lighting makers were in business here from sometime during the 1940s.

In a shop doorway towards Preston Circus is this little gem. Long may it last!

Work has now commenced on controversial plans to alter the traffic flow and accessibility of the area between St. Peter’s and Pool Valley.

Days are numbered for most of the buildings along Pelham Terrace, Lewes Road.

Demolition has started of the old Pink Coconut Night Club.

Built in 1933. Closed as a cinema in the late 1970s, it became a Bingo Hall. This closed in 1997.
