Collections: Public Houses

The Race Horse Inn

The earliest record for the Race Horse Inn is 1882 when it was listed as the Race Horse Tavern run by H Stubberfield.

By 1885 it was known as the Race Horse Inn.

1908 the pub was listed as Ye Race Horse Inn and run by the Woolven family. They had the pub up until the sometime during the Second World War.

After the war George Bimson was the landlord here and he ran the pub until the early 1970s.

Recently the pub has been converted into student housing along with many other pubs in the area.

My Gt. Grandfather and Grandmother, Robert William and Minnie Oliver, were the publicans of The Racehorse Inn during the late 1920s to mid 1930s when they retired to live in St Leonards Road/Avenue, Brighton.
